In the framework of SNC’s engagements in Brussels VIII Conference on Supporting the Future of Syria, SNC President, Dr. Bader Jamous, and SNC member, Ibrahim al-Jabawi, met the German Special Envoy to Syria, Mr. Stefan Schneck, in the Belgian capital. They also discussed the disastrous repercussions of the persistence of the regime’s rejection of engaging in a political solution.
The discussion also tackled the issue of detainees and forcibly disappeared persons as well as the extremely dire humanitarian situation which most Syrians, particularly inside Syria, suffer. It was also pointed out that it was important to move forward with issues of transitional justice and accountability and explore all means possible to end the suffering of the Syrian people.
Developments in security and humanitarian terms in Suweida were also discussed at the regime continues to mount its military reinforcements amidst fears it may use violence against peaceful civilians in Suweida. The SNC President emphasized the importance of precluding any attempts to encroach on civilians.
On his part, Mr. Schneck expressed his country’s support of a political solution based on UNSCR 2254 and the EU’s firm position based on the three Noes related to rejecting normalization, sanctions and reconstruction unless the Syrian regime engages tangibly and seriously with the political solution.
