Dr. Bader Jamous met with university students of the faculties of media, law and political science in Aleppo University. The meeting was also attended by several SNC members, members of the National Coalition and the teaching and administrative staff at the university. SNC President offered a briefing on the political process and the current endeavors to move the process forward and keep Syria on the international radar of priorities.
SNC President presented an overview of recent SNC pursuits at the local and international level as well as its future action plan and the efforts undertaken to further the negotiation process to reach a comprehensive political solution in accordance with international resolutions particularly UNSCR 2254.
He offered a briefing on the SNC’s efforts regarding the detainees and forcibly disappeared persons file in addition to actions taken to address the injustice and grievances Syrian refugees in Lebanon are exposed to and SNC’s endeavors to defend all refugees and prevent their deportation to Syria.
Dr. Jamous said the SNC was working at the international level to convince states to put pressure on the Security Council to find some binding mechanisms for the implementation of international resolutions and preventing the Syrian regime from evading a political solution. In this context, he commended efforts made by some Syrian civil actors and institutions emphasizing the importance of joining efforts to complement the SNC’s pursuits towards a comprehensive political solution.
He expressed optimism about Syrian youth and Syrian university students in liberated areas and their academic efforts, achievements and ambitions. He asserted that the SNC seeks to engage them in the political process and train some youth groups in order to enable them to stand up for the goals of the revolution until the aspired solution is reached.
Jamous highlighted the importance of arranging regular meetings with Syrian university students and commended Free Aleppo University’s pioneering role in offering high-quality education and equipping generations to lead and build future Syria.
The youth then engaged in interactive discussions offering many thoughts and questions related to endeavors to secure international recognition of university degrees offered by educational institutions and universities in liberated areas and lobbying the international actors to support higher education in liberated areas in Syria in addition to other questions regarding Brussels Conference, its outcomes and the early recovery fund.
The youth also stressed the importance of furthering a political solution while engaging students, youth and Syrians in general for the SNC to communicate all voices, thoughts and rightful demands to international arenas. They also demanded that the SNC develop the tools through which it communicates with its Syrian constituencies and proposed establishing a credible media platform which would offer facts and put an end to rumors and lies propagated by the regime.
