The SNC President, Dr. Bader Jamous, has sent a letter to the UN Special Envoy to Syria, Mr. Gier O. Pedersen, on the tragic conditions of Syrians in Rukban camp on the Syrian-Jordanian borders. In his letter, SNC President described the dire conditions in the camp and the complete lack of all life requirements. He demanded that the United Nations shoulder its responsibility in urgently assisting IDPs in this camp.
He clarified the humanitarian relief which Syrian IDPs in the camp urgently need and the extremely dire conditions at the humanitarian, medical and service levels given the tight siege imposed by the Syrian regime and the sectarian militias loyalist to it on the one hand and the shut down of other state borders depriving thousands, including children, women and elderly of accessing aid, on the other.
Dr. Jamous demanded that Mr. Pedersen communicates this message to international organizations concerned with food, medical and relief assistance emphasizing that it is essential for the United Nations and its institutions and the international community at large to carry out their humanitarian obligations by breaking the siege of the camp and providing food, water and medication.
