SNC President, Dr. Bader Jamous, met on Friday with the Director of Syria Regional Platform, Mr. Nicholas Granger, in the US Consulate in Istanbul. They discussed the latest developments in Syria, the political process and reasons of obstruction.
The discussion tackled possible ways to further the political solution based on international resolutions, most importantly Geneva Communique and UNSCR 2254, as well as the SNC’s efforts and international communications for that end.
The SNC President also pointed out the deteriorating humanitarian situation inside Syria and the difficulties Syrians are facing especially in liberated areas as well as the situation of Syrian refugees in Lebanon and those held in Roumieh Prison.
Further, he discussed the dire conditions of IDPs in al-Rukban camp and the importance of providing humanitarian support. He also condemned the Syrian regime’s attempts to besiege the camp and eliminate conditions for life therein by preventing the UN from delivering any medical or humanitarian aid to IDPs there.
In his discussions with the American official, Dr. Jamous highlighted the significance of the peaceful movement in Suweida and Syrians’ endeavors to persevere peacefully.
On his part, Mr. Granger affirmed the United States’ support of the essential role of a political solution and the implementation of UNSCR 2254 and the importance of the SNC holding on to this resolution as the entry point of a political solution. He reiterated the USA’s firm position in rejection of normalization or lifting of sanctions on the Syrian regime unless it makes serious and tangible steps towards a political solution.
