August 8, 2024
The President of the Syrian Negotiation Commission, Dr. Badr Jamous, met with the Turkish Foreign Minister, His Excellency Hakan Fidan, in the Turkish capital, Ankara. He was accompanied by the President of the Syrian National Coalition for Revolutionary and Opposition Forces, Mr. Hadi Al-Bahra, and the President of the interim government, Mr. Abdurrahman Mustafa. They discussed the current regional political situation, the latest developments in the Syrian political process, the conditions of Syrian refugees in Turkey, and the developments inside Syria.
During the meeting, views were exchanged on the current developments concerning the Syrian issue. The Turkish minister affirmed his country’s support for purposeful and realistic dialogue and negotiation efforts that would pave the way for a comprehensive political solution in Syria based on United Nations Security Council Resolution 2254, and Turkey’s support for the Syrian people until their legitimate aspirations are achieved.
The President of the Syrian Negotiation Commission emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts for the benefit of both countries and peoples, the importance of adhering to international resolutions, and their full and strict implementation. He also stressed the need to find international and UN mechanisms to advance the political solution and prevent any party from stalling and avoiding their imposed obligations. He pointed out the futility of all attempts to rehabilitate the Syrian regime.
The meeting was characterized by clarity and agreement between the two sides, especially regarding the Syrian political process in all its aspects. Both sides reaffirmed that the negotiated political solution according to international resolutions, particularly the Geneva Communiqué and UN Security Council Resolution 2254, is the only way out and solution to the Syrian issue.
