Organizing collective action and improving situation of the displaced prioritized

SNC President, Dr. Bader Jamous, met on Saturday within the Qalamoon Gathering with some displaced people from Damascus countryside including people from various strata in Afrin. They discussed several pressing issues related to their situation and the SNC President briefed them on the implications of the Syrian political process.


During the meeting, SNC President tackled the importance of organizing collective Syrian action, unifying efforts and constantly coordinating with civil society organizations and the various Syrian actors so as to complement the SNC’s endeavors to find some effective and genuine mechanisms to further a political solution based on UNSCR 2254.


He also discussed the potential ways of improving the reality of the displaced in general in the areas to which they have been forcibly displaced by the war and the regime’s violence. He also heard some of the most significant challenges they are currently facing.


The meeting also featured discussions, interventions and questions by the participants in relation to the reality of the displaced in the areas where they live, the socioeconomic situation in liberated areas, the difficulties facing the displaced at all levels, ways to consolidate resilience, unfair laws passed by the regime concerning the Damascus Countryside Lawyers Bar which prejudiced displaced lawyers and other issues that are of concern to syndicates and community-based associations.

In addition, they stressed the importance of constant communication and consultation and the importance of reaching a political solution which would facilitate their safe return to their homes and towns.
