An SNC delegation headed by SNC President, Dr. Bader Jamous, met on Wednesday several officials of the Middle East Department and the Syrian file in the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs. They discussed the political process, supporting UNSCR 2254, the importance of justice for Syrians and the imperative of providing them with aid while preventing the regime and its corruption network from profiteering.

The SNC President discussed the political process and the continued obstruction by the Syrian regime highlighting the Syrian opposition’s firm position upholding the political solution and the implementation of international resolutions, most importantly are the Geneva Communique and UNSCR 2254. He also pointed out that it was necessary to find some international mechanisms to stop the Syrian regime from persisting in its obstruction of the political solution which entails further tragedies for Syria and risks for the region.

The Dutch side reiterated their country’s support to a political solution and the full an strict implementation of UNSCR 2254. They also asserted the Netherlands support to the SNC’s efforts in pursuing a political solution. The importance of accountability and transitional justice were also discussed in the context of a political solution to ensure sustainable peace and security in Syria.
The SNC delegation thanked the Netherlands for its support for the Syrian people at the diplomatic and humanitarian levels. They stressed the importance of providing support for the Syrian people, refugees and IDPs who experience extremely dire humanitarian conditions while being very cautious so the Syrian regime and its corruption networks would not benefit.
