July22 , 2024
Dr. Badr Jamous, President of the Syrian Negotiation Commission, reported that the Commission has informed the United Nations Security Council members about the deteriorating situation in Syria at all levels during their recent visit to New York. He urged the council members to take serious and decisive responsibility in moving the political solution forward.
In his briefing at the 72nd session of the Coalition General Assembly yesterday, Dr. Jamous emphasized the severity of the Syrian situation and the need for Syrians to show solidarity and mutual support to prevent any potential deterioration. He highlighted the importance of integration and partnership, especially at this time, among political forces, civil society, activists, and all active forces seeking to change the political reality in Syria and achieve a state of justice, law, and equality.
Dr. Jamous reviewed the international meetings held by the Commission in New York last week, including meetings with diplomats, ambassadors, and country representatives, as well as the Office of the UN Secretary-General. The discussions covered several key issues, primarily the political solution, UN Security Council Resolution 2254 and the regime’s evasion of it, the issue of detainees and missing persons, the conditions of refugees, rejection of normalization, and the humanitarian situation in Syria.
He stressed that the Commission remains steadfast in its positions to fulfill the aspirations of Syrians for justice and dignity, and to establish a state of law and citizenship. The Commission will not abandon the principles of the Syrian revolution, recognizing that achieving these goals requires extensive effort and collective, participatory work. Therefore, the Commission is striving through all means to build advanced relationships with Syrian civil society organizations, active forces, media, research centers, and activists, both domestically and internationally, in a manner that serves the Syrian cause.
Dr. Jamous concluded by stating that the Commission is vigorously active on the international level to keep the Syrian issue at the forefront of priorities for influential countries. He called for greater international support for the Syrian file to reach a fair solution based on international resolutions.
